Stranded Vacationers Discover the Joys of Cruise Ship Travel

Further to our blog post A Better Way to Cross the Atlantic where we pointed how flight passengers found a more relaxing way to cross the pond in the wake of the flight cancellations over the past few weeks, we are discovering that it is not just passengers trying to cross the Atlantic that have found a better way to get to their vacation destinations.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has been doing its share to help British travellers stranded abroad by the recent volcanic eruptions. Three of her cruise ships picked up holidaymakers in Spain and the Canary Islands and brought them home in comfort. Balmoral collected one extra passenger in La Coruna in Spain, Boudicca added another eight people to her manifest in Almeria, while Black Watch, cruising the Canary Islands, helped five people in Tenerife, two in Lanzarote and one in Madeira to make it home in the absence of any flights.

Additionally, the 257 passengers who had been on a Caribbean cruise on Fred. Olsen’s other ship – Braemar – and were delayed due to their charter flight being unable to return to the UK, were finally brought home safely on Thursday 22nd April, after spending several nights in hotels on the island, courtesy of the cruise line.

Marketing Director, Nigel Lingard, said: “We are very pleased that all our passengers are now safely home – and delighted that we were able to “offer a lift” to a number of our countrymen stranded by the flight cancellations. Clearly there is a lot to be said for ocean travel in these days of uncertain flights!”
